Chocolate Places to Visit

A chocolate farm in Carmathenshire, South Wales

Head to Wales & immerse yourself in a world of chocolate at the Pemberton's Chocolate Farm in beautiful Carmarthenshire.  These vintage chocolatiers give you the chance to smell, taste, see, touch, & absorb the full flavours of fabulous chocolate.  Their chocolate tours begin again in March 2010 and give you the chance to see how chocolate is made.  Plus you can enjoy light refreshments at the Cocoa Bean Cafe.  There's also a Chocolate Cinema and of course a Chocolate Shop.   More...

What about a Chocolate Tour in London?
Choco story in Bruges, Belgium

Bruges is home to Choco Story, a chocolate museum which outlines the history of chocolate and (equally importantly) why chocolate - and partiuclarly Belgian chocolate - is good for you! There's lots to learn from this visit in this stunning building, and you can also enjoy a demonstration & chocolate tasting.  Afterwards, stroll through the cobbled streets of this medieval city to enjoy the sights of the chocolate shops!  More...

Florence in Italy beckons with its fabulous chocolate

If you're heading for a break in Florence, Italy, why not take a look at this chocolate & wine tasting tour, available through Do Something Different?

This afternoon tasting session takes you to a Cioccolateria in the heart of Florence. This shop has been making chocolates since 1936 - it still uses traditional methods.

Discover more about the different techniques needed to make the chocolates, and then tuck in to a tasting session of different chocolate varieties - plain chocolate, milk chocolate, chocolate filled with vanilla, and hazelnut creams.  Learn how to distinguish between the bitter, acidic, sweet, astringent and salty flavors. Each chocolate is accentuated by a local Italian wine.

According to the info on the web site, these tours only take place on a Tuesday, so please check carefully before buying - there are also some dates when they are not available (very few, mind you!)
Head to Brittany in North West France

Maison Larnicol has a number of shops around France, mostly in the north west - in absolute jewel towns to visit, such as Auray, Pont Aven (a haven for artists), Concarneau itself, Nantes, Rennes, Quimper and Saint Brieuc as well as Bordeaux further south.  You can see its website here - I couldn't access the English version but maybe you'll have more luck. He produces chocolates & biscuits, amongst other things - the photos are just mouth watering.  Maison Larnicol made its fame thanks to its owner, George, wining a bet that he would make a chocolate boat to sail (one people could actually get into, while it was on the water, too).  Most of his shops are in Brittany, so here's the link to Brittany Tourism - do include the historic port of Vannes when you visit, it's majestic!  A fab French market, too, absolutely brimming to the hilt with French goodies, and then you can have a wonderful lunch in one of the many restaurants around the market place.
